Ask some questions

Valerie watched as her splash of water had the desired effect. Eva came to slowly, shaking her head as her vision cleared.

"Valerie? Where am I">Eva was tied up against a tree, unable to move a muscle.

"Relax," said Valerie. "You're a good girl, Eva. I just need some answers before I let you go."

Eva was apologetic as the memories of her behavior during their confrontation returned to her. "Valerie, I am so sorry. That- that wasn't me. I swear, I don't hate you. I don't know what happened after I put on that suit..." Valerie had suspected as much - something in the suit had changed Eva's behavior. But there were still several questions left unanswered.

"Who gave you this suit?" she asked.

"I don't know," replied Eva truthfully. "This morning, all my usual combat gear - even my underwear - had disappeared from my loadout. The only thing I had to wear was this suit. I don't know who it was, or why they did it. I thought it was just a part of the exercise, I swear!"

Interesting, thought Valerie. Someone had changed her loadout too. Whoever it was had wanted to give Eva a clear advantage in this trial. But who could it be? Who could hold such a grudge against her? She looked at Eva's apologetic face. There was no way a rookie like her would have the access to do that.

No, this was someone else's doing. She would need to investigate and find out who this person was and what their motivations were. Before that, though, there was another matter to attend to.

Valerie called Chief, who picked up the call almost immediately. "Yes, Agent">Eva tied to the tree.

"Complete disarmament and immobilization of your opponent," remarked Chief. "Well done, Agent Valerie. You did as well as I had expected. I'm sorry to have doubted you."

"Thank you, Chief," replied a satisfied Valerie. "If there's nothing else, I'll untie Eva and head back to HQ."

"Actually, Agent, I do have something for you. We have a developing situation, and we need you out in the field. Agent Hawk is on standby. Rendezvous with him and head to the mission directly."

"Yes, Chief," Valerie nodded, smiling. Chief had spent no time in putting her to work - just the way she liked it. She picked up her backpack and began to head towards the exit.

"Valerie, wait!" Eva called out. "What about me?"

Oh, right, thought Valerie. Eva was still there - naked and tied to a tree.

"Eva, I'm sorry, but you heard Chief. I have to go," said Valerie apologetically. She thought for a second, then an idea came to hear head. "Hold on a minute," she said, while typing out a text.

"I texted Lexi. She'll come and free you. It'll be only a minute! Sorry, byee" said Valerie, dashing away before Eva could protest.
